ABOUT

My name is Juan Gabriel Alzate Romero. I usually shorten it to Juan A. Romero, so it's easier to remember.

I've started my classical guitar studies at the EAFIT University in Medellín, Colombia and finished at the University of Music in Karlsruhe (Hochschule für Musik). Afterward I made a B.A. in musicology and music informatics (Musikwissenschaft/Musikinformatik) followed up by a M.A. in music informatics.

Currently I am working at the same institution as research assistant and writing my doctor thesis about improvisation and communication in electronic music ensembles.

Feel free to contact me via any of the platforms I am in (list here) or send me an e-mail if you decript my address on the contact page on this site.

I am interested in electronic music, live coding and multimedia and interactive performances and installations. I like trying out programming languages and software for making music, but I usually use SuperCollider for 'almost' everything. Some months ago I started with LuaAV which I've learned to love and use it ever to build this site.

I play with Benoît and the Mandelbrots, a live coding laptop band based in Karlsruhe. We are quite active in our area and we play concerts almost every month with different settings and in vrious locations. Take a look at the Mandelbrots site if you are interested on our dates.
